New tryes fitted

Just had a pair of avon distanzias fitted. The tyre chap told me to take it easy for the first 100mls and oh boy did I need too. Yamaha recommend 30psi front & rear. In the Avon book (which might as well of been the Avon Lady's) they recommend 33 front and 36 rear, so thats what went in. I've never been so scared on roundabouts! Needless to say I have adjusted the pressures nearer to 30 in each which has improved the feel a lot, but still feels very strange. Will this improve? Any advice on Tyre pressures? :024:

The pressures are in the owners book. I've just put michelin pilot sports on mine, lovely tyres.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. That is correct the Yamaha recommends are 30psi front & rear. But they recommend Pirelli and the Forum members generally seem to prefer the Avons. :045:

I'd use the ones in the book. Alot of tyres will have a max psi figure which is quite often considerably more. Probably best to experiment with pressures to get the best feel from the tyres.

The distanzia are by far the most popular choice of tyres for these bikes, forget the silly book, they need to be run at lower pressure, and it also depends a lot on your weight. keep them between 28-29psi give then 2 days to bed in and you will love them.

Having not owned this sort of bike before whats the benefit of trail type tyres on a road bike. To my mind sports touring or sports tyres will be far better. I await some enlightenment.

I've read that but is a ' trial and dual-sports bike tyre ' better than a dedicated road tyre. I'm not going to go off road at all so what are the benefits. Hopefully my posts are not sounding arsey as it sometimes difficult to get the tone across.

Thanks Capt! Definately felt better with the lower pressures, and will lower them a little more just to see. Done about 40mls so far and gradually they are getting scrubbed in.:icon_sunny:

Yep according to the vast majority of the forum they seem to rave about these tyres. Not bad even off road too, according to the posts. I shall give them a couple hundred mls first before any serious judgement because the feel is getting better all the time! Its just that they felt so horrible riding away from where I got them fitted. :glasses10:
