changing clutch
hi folks
done a search and I cant see anything (could be me though!) the clutch seems to be slipping on my 12k mile 04 bike - adjusting it so that it doesnt slip makes the bike quite clunky when selecting 1st gear - so I have ordered the plates and intend to fit the clutch one of the evenings this week I have changed clutch plates on bikes such as RD350's / 400's and X7's no problem - I am assuming this is pretty much the same???? any hints or tips or even an idiots guide would be much appreciated please thanks stu |
You should be fine then if you have done plates before.
You will need to unbolt the water pump & drain the coolant to get the clutch cover off. I only know of one other member that has needed to change his clutch plates out of thousands of XT members. Check the clutch cable adjsutment first. This may help you. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=9392 Good luck:SPanikengun77: |
top reply - thanks very much
turns out that I have managed to adjust the clutch sufficiently to stop both the clunk and the slipping - there seems to be very little 'wiggle room' between th etwo extremes so I reckon the new clutch plates wont be far off (I've bought the bloody things anyway!!) cheers stu |
I would try an oil change first before repacing the plates, unless you are sure the clutch plates are the problem.

Clutch
got the same feeling on my XT at 55.000km.
Allredy wanted to order the plates, when accidently the bike fell over anf broke clutch lever. Replaced the leve with a new one, incl. bolt. Wonder oh wonder clutch feels like new now! It seems that the old lever/bolt were worn out sufficient, that adjusting the clutch got allmost impossible. like new now! saludos, Joe |
