2007 xt660x front end unstable?
Hi All,
Just bought a 2007 xt660x having not ridden on the roads in a few years , was actually sport bike racing (not a very successful career). ANywho my question is that at say 70-80 mph I'm finding a small wobble in the front end. Checked wheel balancing, checked head stock bearing. Could it be due to the high mudguard catching wind or do I need to get a windshield. Or is it something else? Worzel |
Hows your tyre presure im running 30 psi front and rear up to 85 90mph all the time no issuse at all ! Are you maybe hanging on a bit tight try to relax a bit.
Cheers BEAR.:toothy12: |
Thanks
Thanks Bear,
I'll never thought to check the pressures, DOH |
Hi there. I also have a 2007 model no isues at 80-85mph myself presures 30-30 psi.
|
Thanks All!
Think I found the problem, only have the bike week, my friend pointed out that I have a dunlop front tyre and a Bridgestone rear, this (I spose) would throw off the balance and create a wobble. Failing that I might buy a small windscreen.
Gee great forum, thanks for the advice, the xt660x is the best fun I've had with my clothes on. http://www.xt660.com/images/icons/icon14.gif |

Hi m8, did your tyre theory fix it? Ive had my XT660x now for a couple of years and love it to bits. The reason Im posting is the same reason why I joined this forum in The 1st place 2 years ago Cant remember my exact words but I had, and still have, the same Problems as you (around 75 plus a worrying weave) I tried all the usual things, tyres and pressures, shock/fork adjustments And still had the same weave. Im not saying that these adjustments are Not important because they are. Someone on this forum mentioned rider position? I found that sitting further back on the seat the weave disappeared. My m8 weighs around 15 stone and can sit anywhere on the seat and The bike doesnt weave at any speed. Im a shorty and weigh 10 stone. Ive come to the conclusion that its A weight come seat position thing due to the xtx smaller front wheel than the R version. Ive ridden the R with no issues. Hopes this helps anyone out there who is a bit disillusioned Its a great bike, either sit a bit further back on the seat at higher speeds Or start eating the pies!! |

Yes
Spoke with a supermoto mechanic, the wobble at high speed can be fixed by installing a steering damper. Not sure where to mount it though.:unibrow:
