Screen Experiments. Part one.
The Screens at my disposal.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...2062009143.jpg After Trying This. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...2062009145.jpg I moved on to this. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...2062009151.jpg Then tried it without the finnishing strip http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...2062009154.jpg Then tried it a little shorter. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...2062009146.jpg Its a shame you cannot stick it back on after You have Trimmmed toooo much off it. So thats one old screen down on to the next. Time to try the next. But I have lost the photo's I will take some more for part two. To follow. My conclusion. The Middle size screen gave the best compromise for looks and reduced turbelence. Small screen OK for looks but did nothing else, Just like there was no screen. These experiments were before I followed one of the other Threads and started on the wind in the Fork tunnels. :brain::088::o |
I'd be interested in what you settle on as having ridden off road with the standard screen and without any screen at all (fell off and knocked the ****** clean off, fractured arm ouch!!) I found that the standard screen kinda got in the way when trying to navigate the slower, tricky bits.
I was tempted to buy another standard screen and trim off the 'side wings' so it was flush with the headlight cowling and then lop a bit off the height but use the standrd profile? Actually, having knocked the screen off I then had to ride another 50 miles or so to where we were camping and to be honest I didn't find it much of a problem.......although the same couldn't be said for my arm!! Anyway, I'll keep an eye on your progress before I start chopping bits off!! cheers Skippy |
I wonder if a piece of WindCOMB (see other thread on turbulance) applied along the sides and/or top of the screen would have an effect. Same idea as winglets:

i've found re-directing the wind coming up nr the tank has made the whole bike to ride as clean as anything. you could even experiment by reshaping this piece of plastic only 3-00 for a piece 1.5mt long !!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/39788003@N06/3654492369/ nb also use the higher screen available from powerbronze but going for a spin with the std one to see if no longer needed |
