Front Brake
I bought another xt about 4 weeks ago and only got it put on the insurance today . the bike had been garaged for about 8 months but is in good nick, here"s the problem when i rode it today i noticed a shake in the front brake when breaking lightly it def feels like a warped disc but the bike only has 8k miles on it and the disc has no wear on it . I took the front caliper off cleaned everything and nothing is sticking, pistons etc are moving fine. The only thing i can think of is that the disc is supposed to float slightly if it had seized up and doesn"t float would this cause the strange braking feeling. any one any ideas. cheers

Yes the same thing happened to me on my 04 XTX, I used a rubber hammer & knocked the disc gently side to side while turning the front wheel slowly. This should loosen the disc up. good luck. If it does not fix it you will be up for a new disc.

Were you having the same problem when braking lightly, the feeling of a warped disc ? i was wondering should you notice the free play in the floating disc. the disc on my bike is solid but then my friend thinks you would have so little movement in it you can hardly see if its floating or not

I see there is a disc for a xt660 r on ebay does anyone know if the x and r models have the same front disc ?

The X model has a larger disc than the R so they are not the same. They come up from time to time on ebay but if your wanted a new disc straight away your best bet is to go to your bike dealer.
I also notice your from belfast so that would be hursts. |
Ive been told at last service (about 1100 miles ago) that my front disc on my 05 XTX is warping. I can feel it certainly at lowish speeds as you can feel it pulsing when light to medium breaking. Ive done just short of 12000miles. Bit dissapointed that it needs replacing so "soon" but meh. Id rather be able to stop when neccesary than save a few quid and live dangerously.
