Sometimes I think I must have the best job in the world!
 

I am basically the IT department for a mid sized company based in Yorkshire, one of our subsidiary companies (an engineering company in South Wales) calls me on Tuesday morning with internet problems, turns out that the Cisco Firewall is failing.

Hmmm. so I'm in Yorkshire, there is a problem with one of our Welsh offices and the temperature is in the mid twenty's.....Steve to the rescue I think. Quickly book a hotel, order a new firewall then it's off home to grab a change of clothes and a quick 200 mile trip to Wales. Except the 200 miles turns into about 350 instead, with less than a hundred of those being on A roads and no motorways at all.

Eventually arrive at the hotel at around 10:30PM (after leaving home at about 2PM), in the morning call in at the office and after 3 hours of waiting for the firewall to arrive and configuring it I am off home again, the long way of course.

And if the above isn't bad enough, because it was work related I get to claim expenses on my mileage. Result!!!

Good stuff indeed! You're lucky being able to claim unlimited mileage; we only get up to 100miles and then you're in a hire car and they won't do hire bikes! Boo!

You are a lucky so and so, nice piccies and the flys is a cracker everyones got a photo similar to that, i had a similar one the other day coming home from middle of norn iron home..

I hope they paid you over time for the extra time it took to get there & back.
