Decent Camp Bed Required - Any Suggestions?

Looking to treat myself to a decent camp bed, previously I have used the thermarest type mats but I have decided a little more comfort would be a good thing. Sleeping on the ground is fine for dogs but I would rather sacrifice some packing space for extra comfort.

Can find some nice campbeds from various US suppliers that would do the trick, but in the UK the only option appears to be either something so big that I would need a trailer to carry it, or something so cheap that I am not convinced they would work.

Can anyone recommend a solution? The two most promising at the moment (both from US companies) are the LuxuryLite Cot and the Go-Kot, would much prefer to get something from the UK though, I much prefer to see before I buy, and I don't have the patience to wait for an order from the US. I am not opposed to cheap if I know someone that has used one previously, but by and large I do believe you get what you pay for.

I've been thinking along the same lines and looked at this

http://http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay...m=110323693227

Ebay item number 110323693227

My only thoughts are will it fit in my tent.

I know it would fit my tent, but I couldn't see it fitting on the bike. Doesn't look like it would pack down particularly small.

Have you had a look on the HUBB?

There's pages and pages of info on camping gear, try htis thread for a start:

Ive camped a few times and use the thermorest and have had no problem with it but i understand that sleeping on the floor isnt the most comfy some times.

I use to do alot of hiking (duke of edinburgh stuff) and remember seeing a guy that had i fold away camp bed with 4 legs (1 each corner) and then he also had his mat ontop of it (basically just raised him off the ground)

Cant remeber what it was but is this the type of thing your looking for? or are you wanting a bigger blow up type mat/bed?

I use an Exped Synmat 7DLX (extra length and width), review here- http://www.trailspace.com/gear/exped/synmat-7-dlx/
Cost wise mine was 80 from up and under in Cardiff. Packs down very small and is very comfy and warm.
There's a guy who crops up on ebay selling the downmats every now and then cheaply, I'm allergic to down so couldn't get one, but worth a look.

I use one of these - now I'm past 65 I need a bit of comfort.

Packs up faily small but worth loosing some space for acomfortable back. I hate waking with backache that prevents me enjoying the next days ride.

Very not try 2 thermorests one on top of the other. should be magic that:rockwoot:hmmm i can already feel the heat from it now.

I use a 20 Gelert single airbed. packs up small and gives me a better nights sleep than my bed at home. i wouldn't consider anything else personally, and i've camped a lot.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have tried the single airbeds, they are really really comfy, but unfortunately I am two for two on leaking airbeds so far, so I don't have too much faith in them. If one sprung a leak at the start of a camping trip it would put quite a damper on the rest of it.

Looks like I may have to order one of the camp beds from the states, that or work out another solution.

Yep that's the ideal solution I think. The two links in the first post look like great products from the US, shame we can't get anything to the same standard over here.

The first packs down from this

to this

The second doesn't pack as small, but it certainly looks comfy.

Both products look really well though out, and both come with a lifetime guarantee, the first one is $219 and the second is $109.95.

I had one of the first ones "Ultralight COT"....it collapsed on the 2nd night and was awefull. Cost alot and inc the import tax and the hassle returning it I lost alot of cash. It doesnt like uneven ground, rocky ground and the list goes on! Only thing its good for is at home on the carpet as the legs buckled...i wasnt too pleased in the alps in winter having to lay on the floor instead :Christo_pull_hair:

Hi,
I've been using a "Hennessy Hammock", they are unbelievable for comfort and packability, but you do need trees or some poles to attach to, no good in the desert.
They will give the best nights sleep you've ever had.
Piggar.
