weight savings
superlight Speedcell battery
Found a big weight saver by replacing the battery for a Speedcell SS. Not sure if this battery will work as good as the oem battery, but soon I will find out as I ordered one. It only weights 11 ounces = 0.3 kg !!! Not sure what the oem battery weights, as my scale says !overload! so it must be over 2.2kg. So it looks like I'm gonne save about 2 kg on my bike. note: this pic is not a xt660 battery. http://www.motowheels.com/italian/im...g219795364.JPG more info can be found here: http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myProducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=915%7CBatteries%20 and%20Battery%20Accessories&productID=6815&showDet ail=1&categoryID=915|Batteries%20and%20Battery%20A ccessories&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collecti on= |

I finally received the Speedcell battery I ordered a couple of weeks ago.
Put it on a scale it only weights 0,3 kgs. Not believing this could replace the original battery I took the change today of testing this. I removed the battery and placed the Speedcell. Filled the battery holder with foam material (weights almost nothing) I took from computer transport boxes. Wired the Speedcell pressed the ignition and off she goes! Really fantastic you feel the reduction in weight when holding the bike on its side. Weight saving. Yamaha battery: 3,3kgs Speedcell battery: 0,3 kgs Weight reduction: 3,0 kgs Easy job to do. |
I don't call you the
MODFATHER for nothing!!! :D :082:

Well I'm trying the best being one. Lucky there's a lot to mod on these bikes ;)

Marcel what is the AMP hour rating of the new battery? Not to worry I found the result.
I will be interested to see how long the battery lasts. The larger SBK battery may have been better with your high compression motor. http://www.motowheels.com/italian/my...or=&collection= XT battery rating. Weight 3.3kgs Volts 12 Amp-Hour 8.0Ah CCA 115 Length 6 Width 2.75 Height 4.125 Your new battery. Pulse discharge @ 10 seconds = 240 Amps - Continuous discharge (MAX) = 140 Amps - Cycle Life (DoD spec) = 1,000 cycles 10.5cm (L) 5cm (W) 4.13" (L) 1.96" (W) - Weight = 766.57g / 1.69lbs - Rating = 4.6Ah - Applications = Engines 748 cc twins to 1400cc with stock stators as well as Triumph 675. The SpeedCell SS Battery are designed for for 2 and 3-cylinder engines up to 600cc or 750cc 4-cylinder with original compression and stock stators. |
Well I did asked them what battery was suitable for the xt so they adviced me the SS. If the battery needs to be replaced I will try next time the SBK.

Yesterday I put the bike on a scale and with a full tank it weights 170,5kgs.
So without 15ltrs of petrol the dry weight would be around 155,5kgs. |

The cells can be bought separately and you can make the pack yourself and save allot of moeny, speed cell only assemble A123 cells they buy. The internet is full of A123 cells with lower price (click on the link). |

Well I don't know much about electrics but I do know it's a big weight saver and I can tell you the engine starts with this tiny battery. Amazing ;-).
|
As said speed cell only make the assembly of the cells but they didn't finish the job as they should.
The A123 cells need to be balanced once or twice a year in order to get the maximal efficiency, for this the pack need to have another connector that support a voltage balancer device http://shop.durbahn.de/shopimgs/456.jpg this will connect to the cells directly and level the voltage between them in the picture you can see the extra connector and to it attached a small display that do a voltage test to all cells. http://img2.timg.co.il/forums/1_131721304.jpg |
Any body else installed A123 cells? I am still wondering how long they last and is the 4 cells are enough for this motor?
|
is there somebody who realy tested these batterys?
saving 3kg with the 4dell battery sounds just nice, but will it work every day and even in could weather and so on...? |
